Ripa Eye Institute, University of Ancona, Italy OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY (OCT) IN COURSE OF DIABETIC VITREO-RETINAL TRACTION MACULOPATHYVitreous Traction Maculopathy, Diabetic Macular Edema Vitreous induced, maculopathy due to posterior hyaloid contraction are synonymous with the latter identified pattern of Diabetic Maculopathy, with controversial clinical aspects, and characterized by: Absence of complete posterior vitreous detachment Increased Retinal Thickness of the center of the macula Characteristic reflex of the vitreo-retinal interface Purpose of our study is to assess the role and efficacy of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) in the identification and evaluation of Diabetic Vitreo-Retinal Traction Maculopathy. Thats really important for the treatment: in fact Vitrectomy with posterior hyaloid removal represents the elective treatment, while on the contrary laser might be unsuitable. Methods12 patients (18 eyes) affected by this entity underwent a complete ophthalmological examination, FA, and OCT. Results:OCT revealed two patterns:
Biomicroscopy revealed an increased reflex of Internal Limiting Membrane (ILM) frequently involving the whole macular region in the first group, but in the second one only less evident and more circumscribed alterations are present. Vitrectomy was performed in 4 cases with VA improvement of 2-3 Snellen lines in all of them. Conclusion:If our remarks will be borne out by larger surveys, OCT must be considered useful in the diagnosis and monitoring of this Maculopathy. |
